The Commercial Management Scheme

M&G’s Commercial Management Graduate Scheme will give you a practical introduction to the management and operation of an investment firm, while providing early exposure to a range of challenging business experiences.

The scheme is designed to develop individuals who can lead and manage our complex business units and functions, which play a crucial role in ensuring that we are able to capitalise on the strength of our investment capability. We are looking for individuals who are excited about delivering commercial success by applying a combination of analysis, strategic thinking, relationship management and leadership skills. This scheme will suit graduates who have a commercial mind-set and want to gain an in-depth understanding of how a dynamic business works in order to take up a future leadership role.

The scheme typically lasts between 12 and 18 months and involves a series of three month placements in our business units. In each rotation, you will work closely with senior management and colleagues to expand your range of skills and competencies. At the same time, you will be expected to make a genuine contribution to the organisation’s success from a very early stage. The encouraging and supportive environment at M&G ensures graduates are well equipped to reach their full potential through a combination of formal training and on the job learning. Towards the end of the programme we will work with you to find a permanent role that suits your strengths and ambitions.

Trainees who join our commercial scheme will rotate through the following business areas:

  • Equities
  • Retail
  • Group Operations
  • Fixed Income
  • Prudential Capital

Equities

The Equities division is responsible for the management of equity, multi-asset and bond funds on behalf of M&G’s retail clients. Equities is primarily focussed on delivering superior investment performance to M&G’s clients and works closely with the Retail business to develop and distribute products that offer real value to those clients over time. Within this rotation you would hold an operational role participating in activities such as working in the Investment Specialist team, providing a key link between Equities investment teams and the sales and the sales and marketing functions in the Retail business, or analysis of investment performance within the Performance Analytics team. With a range of learning opportunities across an impressive client portfolio, it's an ideal platform for your future success.

Retail

The Retail division is responsible for the effective distribution of the investment propositions of the Equities business. This includes the distribution of retail funds to clients across the UK, Europe and Asia and covers a wide range of activities from marketing, to sales, to operations. We are constantly adapting to the changing needs of our clients and our people are at the centre of that, making it happen. And, with many different areas to explore, there's bound to be a career path for you - whether it's within product development, strategic planning, compliance, sales, marketing, investment marketing or corporate communications.

Group Operations

In this rotation you will learn about the key operational and technical functions that support the M&G business. Within this rotation you could be part of the business change, information systems, investment operations or information risk teams. You will be an active team member from day one helping us improve business performance, and best of all, each experience will give you a unique insight into how our business works.

Fixed Income

M&G has one of the largest Fixed Income teams in Europe, and stands out as a leader in its field. This dynamic team is constantly innovating to remain at the forefront of the investment management industry. Within this rotation you would hold an operational role in teams such as Sales & Distribution, Client Directors, Business Management or Performance Analytics.

Prudential Capital

Prudential Capital (PruCap) manages Prudential Group’s balance sheet for profit by leveraging Prudential Group’s market position. This business has three strategic objectives: to provide professional treasury services to the Prudential Group; to operate a first-class wholesale and capital markets interface; and to realise profitable proprietary opportunities within a tightly controlled risk framework. In particular, PruCap provides a holistic view on hedging strategy, liquidity and capital management to the Prudential Group. It offers an opportunity for you to work in a dynamic part of the business in projects involving new product development, infrastructure & vendor management, risk & compliance and business management. Each experience in PruCap will give you a unique insight into the inner workings of a group treasury operation, and offers a different perspective on the investment industry.
